6 Days Serengeti Safari & Gorilla Trekking Itinerary

 Day 1: Transfer to Serengeti National Park and evening Game Drive

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or from your hotel in Arusha, you will meet and greet with representatives of Engabi Tours and Travel Ltd and thereafter your driver/guide will transfer you to Serengeti National Park with stop overs for photo moments.

On arrival in Serengeti National Park, you will have an evening game drive as you head to the lodge of your choice for check in, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

After breakfast this morning you will go out to enjoy an amazing game drive in the Serengeti. The great diversity of Serengeti wildlife is evident here and you will look out for buffalo, hippopotamus, elephant, giraffe, antelope, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, and lions. You will also see the spectacular wildebeest migration in the Southern part of Serengeti but of course not the river crossing. In the late afternoon after your lunch you will venture out in another game drive. Dinner and Overnight at the lodge of your choice.

Day 3: Morning Short Serengeti Game Drive and Afternoon Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

Today you will wake up to an early morning short game drive in the Serengeti plains which will last for two hours. Thereafter you will transfer to Ngorongoro conservation arriving in time for a game drive at the crater rim commonly known as the “Garden of Eden” for wildlife. Your lunch will be at the rim of the crater. After encountering the big 5 animals, you will retire continue to the lodge of your choice for check in, dinner and relaxation.

Day 4: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to Catch your Flight to Kigali and later to Bwindi

After breakfast at your lodge, you will start the journey to Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your flight to Kigali International Airport in Rwanda. You will arrive in time for a meet and greet with your driver from Engabi Tours and Travel who will transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for overnight at the lodge of your  choice.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the gorilla trekking starting point. Here you will be briefed about the gorilla trekking rules while your guide takes care of the practicalities. After briefing you set off into the forest with a specialized guide who leads you to the point where the gorillas are. For one unforgettable hour you are in the area of the mountain Gorillas seeing them in their daily life, with a chance to spot some forest interior birds.

After trekking the gorillas, you head back to the starting point where your driver will pick you and take you to back to the Lodge to freshening up, Lunch and relaxation by your balcony. You may choose to visit the pigmies community or take a biking tour the rest of the evening

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali

General Information

 Entry Requirements:

All visitors to Uganda and Tanzania must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveler. To move between Uganda and Rwanda, we recommend that you acquire an East African Tourist Visa and this can be got from your first country of arrival

Language:

Luganda, English (Uganda) and English& Kiswahili (Tanzania)

Voltage:

In Uganda and Tanzania the standard voltage is 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs.

Currency:

Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.

Clothing:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

Baggage:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

Water:

You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. 

 Health;

East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray

Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.

Dietary Requirements:

For those guests with specific dietary requirement, please ensure the Hotel is notified prior to travel

Gratuities:

As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following:

The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day

Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day

Photography:

Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
