Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet and greet with your private driver/ guide who will brief you about your Rwanda Gorilla safari and later embark on a 3 hours’ drive North of Kigali to Kinigi at the foot of Volcanoes National Park via Rwanda’s most beautiful countryside. You will arrive in time to check into the lodge and later enjoy dinner surrounded by the evergreen tropical forest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing together with your packed lunch and thereafter you will venture into the gigantic forest in search of the gorillas. The trek takes from 2-8 hours depending on how close the gorillas are and on finding them you allowed a time of 1 hour to watch and capture this memorable experience as the gorillas go about their day to day activities. Later retire for an overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Lazily transfer back to Kigali city

Today wake up at leisure and enjoy you breakfast before transferring to  Kigali where on arrival you will embark on a Kigali City tour including a visit to  Kigali Genocide memorial in Gisozi ,Rwanda National Museum and to Caplaki Market to buy souvenirs depending on the time of your departure flight. The City tour can alternatively be done on the first day and then you do a visit to the Ibywachu Cultural Village on the last day.

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri

Today you will be picked by our representative from either your hotel in Kigali or from the airport and will be taken on a tour of Kigali city in which you will visit the gisozi genocide site, local markets and later hit the road driving north-wards to Volcanoes national park in Musanze province former Ruhengeri. On arrival you will check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking and visit to the Ibywacu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast at your hotel you will set off  for briefing at the park headquarters with all the necessary trekking gear and packed lunch before proceeding to the forest with the ranger guides for the memorable gorilla trekking adventure experience. The Gorilla trekking time depends on how long it will take to find the gorillas and when located, you will spend a maximum of one hour with them.After the gorilla trekking experience you will head back to your lodge for lunch and thereafter have a cultural experience at the Iby’iwachu cultural village where you will learn about the Kinyarwanda culture. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking & transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast you will head out to track the golden monkeys and later in the afternoon   transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu.Enroute you will visit the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site and the King’s palace arriving in Gisenyi late in the evening to check into your lodge and  relax along the lake shores for the rest of the night .

Day 4: Boat ride on Lake Kivu and tour of Nyamirundi Island

After breakfast at your lodge,you will embark on a relaxed and breathtaking boat ride on Lake Kivu the largest fresh water body in Rwanda and DR Congo. Later in the afternoon you will have an early lunch before embarking on a tour of Nyamirundo island to explore and learn about coffee making in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Transfer to DR Congo and Mountain Nyiragongo Lava Hike

After a very early breakfast at your lodge you will cross over to Goma in DR Congo and proceed to Kibati village where the Nyiragongo mountain hiking starts from. You will reach the top in the afternoon and have dinner and overnight at the top of the Nyiragongo Volcanoe.

Day 6: Descend the Nyiragongo Mountain and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

In the morning, you will descend the volcano and cross back to Gisenyi-Rwanda from where you will be transferred to Lake Bunyonyi. The journey will offer you with sights of the beautiful terrain of the rolling hills with terraced landscape. On arrival you will have lunch and embark on an afternoon boat ride to the zebra island and punishment island among others. Later have a relaxed dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today you will wake up at leisure, have breakfast and later in the afternoon transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national Park the home of Mountain Gorillas. On arrival you will check into your lodge have lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your lodge in preparing for your gorilla trekking encounter the next morning.

 Day 8: Second Gorilla trekking

Today after breakfast, you will proceed with your guide together  with packed lunch boxes to the Bwindi impenetrable head offices for a briefing about how to conduct yourself during your trekking adventure. You will then enter the thick impenetrable forest in search for the rare intriguing giants. After a full hour with them while observing and learning their behavior as you take photos, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 9: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will enter the park via Ishasha sector the commonly known area for the rare tree climbing lions. Have lunch at Ishasha as you spot the hippos in the Ishasha River. You may also spot buffaloes, leopards, Kob and topis on the plains of the area. Proceed to the park for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 10: Game drive and afternoon Launch cruise

After your breakfast, you will go for the morning game drive in Kasenyi area to search for different wildlife animals missed out in the previous game drive. Later visit the Katwe explosion craters. Here you will spot Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater and this will give you clear view of different wildlife around the Park. In the afternoon, go for the launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel where you will be rewarded with wildlife sights of species like the Hippopotamuses, Waterbucks, Crocodiles and a variety of Water Birds like the black bee- eater, several species of falcons and the raptors. Day 11: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

 Day 12: Chimp tracking and Bigodi Swamp walk

After a heavy breakfast at your lodge, you will go for the life time Chimpanzee tracking experience in their natural environment and habitat. You will first report to the Park Headquarters at Kanyachu for a briefing about the chimp trackers code of conduct by a UWA official and then later go for the morning chimpanzee tracking experience. You will penetrate into the forest under the guidance of an armed ranger for the tracking. Besides the chimps, you may spot other primates and these include: Varvet Monkey, L’hoest, Blue Monkey, Red-Tailed Monkey, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Black And White Colobus Monkey and many more. Return back to the lodge for Lunch and later go for the afternoon Bigodi swamp walk to search for different bird species. Dinner and overnight at your lodge

Day 13: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After a morning breakfast, you will drive to Murchison falls with lunch en route in Hoima. The journey will reward you with spectacular views of the magnificent scenery as you drive through the traditional homesteads and farms on your way to Murchison. Reach Masindi town in the evening and then proceed to the Park for dinner and overnight stay at Lodge..

Day 14: Game drive and launch cruise along the Albert Nile

After breakfast, you will set out for game drive on the northern sector of the Park. Here you will search for the early risers where you will be able to spot animals like Lions,Elephants, Buffaloes, Warthogs, baboons, Giraffes, Water bucks, bush bucks and so on. If you are a lucky visitor, you can also spot the Leopard. The game drive can take like 4-5 hours and this is the longest game drive in all Uganda National Park. Return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon set out for the launch cruise along the Albert Nile where you will enjoy the cruise and can be able to spot animals like hippos, crocodiles, Oribis, buffalos and the wonderful bottom of the falls. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 15: Second Chimpanzee tracking and top of the falls

After breakfast, you will go for chimpanzee tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi area within Budongo Forest. There are a number of chimpanzees as well as other primates. Have lunch at Kaniyo Pabidi and in the afternoon, visit the top of the falls where you will be rewarded with sights and sound on the Albert Nile crashing through the chasm. The water forces its self in a narrow gap in a rock only 7 meters wide pouring into a gorge 43 meters down thus making a thunderous roaring sound. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 16: Transfer to Kampala

After breakfast, you will transfer back to Kampala reaching in time for Lunch. Drop off will be at your Hotel or at the Airport to catch your flight back home

Day 1 : Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will be picked up from either your hotel in Kigali or from the airport by our company representative who will take you on a tour of Kigali city to visit the gisozi genocide site, local markets and later transfer you north-wards to Volcanoes national park in Musanze province. On arrival you will check in to your lodge for overnight and dinner.

 Day 2 : Gorilla Trekking and Ibywacu Cultural Village visit

After an early breakfast, you will embark on your first gorilla trekking in East Africa as you move to the park headquarters for briefing with your packed lunch. The time taken hiking for gorillas highly depends on the location of the gorillas since they are wildlife animals in the jungle. After locating the gorillas you will spend a maximum of one hour with them.

After lunch go for a cultural experience tour at the Ibyiwacu cultural village to learn about the Kinyarwanda culture. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

 Day 3 : Golden Monkey Tracking

Day 4 : Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi Uganda

 Day 6 : Second Gorilla Trekking

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport and Transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred 3 hours to Akagera national park. En -route you will stop at Nyakarambi village to see Rwanda arts. You will check into your lodge and after lunch go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to spot wildlife such as hippos, Nile crocodiles, birds and elephants. The boat cruise ends at 05pm on time for dinner and overnight at Akagera Game lodge

Day 2 : Game Drive and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your game drive to explore the park starts at 06:30AM in the morning after a cup of coffee. A  Ranger will escort you to search for black rhino, lion as well as spot elephants, buffalo, impalas, topi, giraffe, zebra and birds. The ranger will allow for relaxing time to talk walks through the park with lunch break. After lunch you will return to Kigali and then drive 2 hours to Volcanoes national park. Day 3 : Gorilla trekking and Village Walk

Enjoy early morning breakfast and you will head to Kinigi park offices at 07:30am for a pre-gorilla trek briefing. The terrain is steep comprised of jungle, Virunga volcanoes so you may hire a porter. You will then be led by expert Rwanda guides looking for the gorillas and you will spend 1 hour with these wonderful apes taking their photos. Return back for lunch.

After lunch, the evening will be spent outside the park at Iby’iwacu cultural center where you will meet local people to share stories, learn local culture.

Day 4 : Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu

Today, you will track golden monkeys after which you transfer to Lake Kivu for a boat cruise and relaxation on the beach. Golden monkeys are rare primates endemic to Virunga massifs. You will enjoy a morning trek in search of these rare primates returning to the lodge for lunch.  Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

Day 2 : Gorilla Tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu

Day 1: transfer from Kigali to volcanoes national park

Day 2: gorilla tracking and village walk
Take breakfast and then head to kinigi visitor center where you are briefed by guides about the gorilla families.  You will be pleased to have an up close encounter with mountain gorillas for 1 hour in which you take as many photos as you want.  Back to your lodge for lunch after a memorable gorilla tracking

After lunch, visit iby’iwacu cultural village outside the park. The tour is an interesting opportunity to learn about the Rwanda culture and folklore such as how a king and queen dress up. The tour ends with traditional dance performances.

Day 3: hiking an overnight on Mount Karisimbi
In the morning at 08:00am after breakfast meet with guides, porters and cooks who will accompany to the summit of Mount Karisimbi hiking. You start hiking and trek until a campsite where you will enjoy meals and rest.

Day 4: descend the volcano and transfer back to Kigali
This morning wake up and ascend the summit where you will get most beautiful views. Gorillas and Golden Monkey Trekking Rwanda Itinerary (4 Days)

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National park

If you just arrive at Kigali airport, you will picked up and transfer to volcanoes national park. (You will have breakfast at hotel if you are in Kigali). The route from Kigali to volcanoes takes 2 hours with scenic views of hills and farms. Arrive at the lodge for lunch, dinner and overnight included at Da Vinci lodge/ Hotel muhabura/ Le bamboo lodge

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and cultural walk

After 07:00am breakfast go to the park center and meet your guides who will give you instructions for gorilla tracking. The visitors will be put into small groups of 8 people and the guided trek is easy and takes about 1-4 hours though there are some uphill and downhill parts on the trails in the forest searching for the gorillas. It is good to have hiking shoes, especially during the rainy season. Once gorillas are found, you are allowed to observe and take photos for 1 hour. After lunch, you will visit the nearby Iby’iwacu cultural village and enjoy interacting with local people as you learn the Rwandan traditions including dance performances.
Return back for dinner and overnight

Day 3 : Golden monkey Tracking and Boat trip on Twin lakes

You will be at Kinigi park center by 07:30am; your friendly guides will give you a briefing on golden monkeys. Take a guided hike in the search for golden monkeys which you shall find in the bamboo forest and return by 11am for lunch. in the afternoon, you will take a drive to visit the Twin lakes of burera and Ruhondo known for their beautiful scenery. Take a boat cruise or canoe tour of the lakes and return back for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali

Your last day, after breakfast transfer back to Kigali and Upon arrival, you will go for a short city tour of Kigali genocide museum and craft markets to shop souvenirs. Later depart at Kigali.

Day 1:  Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will meet and greet with your guide from Engabi Tours and Travel who will welcome you to Rwanda and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park the home of Rwanda Mountain Gorillas. If time allows, you will take a sightseeing tour of Kigali city. Visit genocide memorials and have lunch.  Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience and Cultural Tour

After breakfast, there will be a briefing attendance at Kinigi visitor center to know the rules of tracking gorillas as explained by your guide.  Then you will be guided into the forest hiking on foot through dense forest. After locating gorillas, you will feel great when you spend 1 hour close to a gorilla family feeding in their natural habitat.

Return for lunch at the lodge. Later in the evening you will visit Iby’iwacu cultural village where the local people offer plenty of cultural activities such as traditional dance performances, bow and arrow shooting, cooking, weaving allowing you to interact, share knowledge and learn from each other. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking/ Dian Fossey Tomb hiking and transfers back to Kigali

On your last day, you have two activities to choose from either golden monkey tracking or hiking to Dian Fossey tomb.

Hiking to Dian Fossey and Karisoke research center built in 1967 by Dian Fossey a renowned gorilla conservationist will take 1-3 hours.

If you opt to see golden monkeys, you expect the hike up to take 4 hours because it involves searching for the beautiful primates usually found in the bamboo forest. After your final activity you will be transferred back to Kigali city or airport for departure.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

On your arrival at Kigali airport you will be met by your guide/driver. Your tour starts and you drive north to Ruhengeri. If you have time, en route you may have the chance to stop at Iby ‘Iwacu cultural village to learn about Rwanda traditions, customs and culture. From Iby’iwacu you will enter into the park to relax at your lodge. Diner and overnight at Da Vinci lodge/ Mountain gorilla view lodge/ Le Bambou gorilla lodge

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking experience and Transfer back to Kigali

Breakfast early morning and head to Kinigi visitor center where you gather and attend briefing from the guides. you will then go in search of gorillas that can be found feeding in the park. It often takes 1 or 3 hours of hiking to find gorillas depending on how they move. But once found, you are allowed to spend 1 hour taking photos. Following your gorilla tracking experience, you head back to the visitor center and embark on the transfer back to Kigali to connect to any other place of your interest.

Clothing:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

Baggage:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

Water:

You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. 

 Health;

East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards: Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray

Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.

The 1 Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour begins in the city of Kigali starting at 04:00 AM in the morning from where you set off with your driver from Kigali which takes 2 hours drive north to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda  home to mountain gorillas.

You will arrive at Kinigi, the park visitor center by 07:00 am on time for gorilla tracking. There will be a 30 minute briefing by Rwandan development board guides on gorilla rules and how to make proper preparations for hiking by wearing shoes, packing your water/lunch or hiring porters. Be aware that searching for gorillas in the forest can involve extreme hiking steep slopes. In case of longer treks that can take 3-5 hours while searching for gorillas, the guides will be flexible to make regular stops when you are tired. s

Venture through the forest trails looking for gorillas. You will get to see and photograph gorillas for a full hour which is enough for you to stare in the eyes of the gorillas. After the gorilla trekking experience, trek back out the forest to the park. And then return back to Kigali to mark the end of your one day Gorilla trekking Rwanda safari tour.
